What is UX? And Why is it Important?

You may have heard the term “UX design,” but what does that mean? While it might seem like another buzzword, UX design is one of the cornerstones of product development. In simple terms, UX design stands for user experience, and it encompasses all the aspects of the product. If you want to get some in-depth knowledge about UX design, make sure to keep reading this article.

What Is User Experience?

User experience (UX) is any interaction that a user has with a service or product. Websites fall under the UX design category. The ideal UX design should make the experience of using the product or service as enjoyable as possible for the user. With that, the goal of UX design must present the user with a relevant, efficient, and intuitive product experience. UX design takes into account the wants and needs of its users.

While the UX design should produce aesthetically pleasing work, creating the best user-friendly experience for the product must be the primary goal. The design will take the audience from point A to point B in the easiest way possible.

Why Is UX Important?

If you pay attention to the marketing and corporate worlds, everyone seems to be talking about UX. Yes, it is a popular buzzword. From Tesla to Apple, all of these companies are emphasizing UX design. These large corporations are prioritizing UX by making it a necessary component for any product release.

As a result, users are happier with these companies’ services and products. With UX, it is all about the experience for the user. If the user is not pleased with the design or the service is not easy to manage, they are more likely to choose another company.

Principles of UX Design

UX and usability are two terms often used interchangeably. While usability is a part of UX, this concept covers more than that aspect. There are several principles that you should follow if you want a great UX design for your clients. These facets of UX include usefulness, usability, findability, credibility, desirability, accessibility, and value.

Usefulness

What will customers gain from the product? Why does the user need this service? If you have a product, it should fulfill a purpose. With this phase, some questions should be answered. When your product does not have a purpose, then it will struggle to compete in a crowded market. Like most aspects of UX, the usefulness depends on the user.

Usability

With usability, the product needs to make the user’s journey as efficient as possible. If a product is not usable, it can be hard to succeed but not impossible. However, usability does present your product with a substantial competitive advantage. A high level of usability will make a difference with consumers, especially when you consider the users’ needs when using the product or service.

Findability

Findability doesn’t mean that the product is easy to find. Instead, it is easy for the consumer to navigate. Findability is a prevalent concern for a website. When the user can quickly find answers to their questions, that is an example of findability. If users cannot find what they want, they are more likely to move to another product. Findability has the potential to ruin the UX for your product.

Credibility

If the audience cannot trust the product to give them the desired result, then they will turn to another service or product. For those products without credibility, it can be hard to gain the trust of the user. In turn, the user will take their business to another company. There have been many examples of distrust with products. From car manufacturers to video game creators, it can be impossible to win them back once you lose the public’s trust. You can avoid all of these misrepresentations by consistently delivering on what you promise to the consumer.

Desirability

The product’s brand, emotional design, and identity are all-important to UX design. When the product is more desirable, it will have a bigger following with your consumers. In some cases, the user with the desired product is likely to talk to their friends about it, creating a desire with potential users. When you make your product more desirable, you can have a big following for your product and the company. Desirability triggers something within the consumer. They will actively go out and search for your product.

Accessibility

If you want to create a strong product, you need to consider your users’ abilities. For those who have vision, hearing, or motion impairments, you need to have a product or service that they can use. When you create an accessible product, you want to consider several factors, such as the size of text or website colors. However, designers are slowly moving to make accessibility a high priority on their lists. Products with a great UX should be easy to use for everyone. With an accessible product or service, you will have a more robust UX, and that can do wonders for your company’s credibility.

Value

Finally, your product must provide some value to the customer and your business. The value is often the sum of all the other aspects. In some cases, these steps are prioritized in different orders. For example, your product might want to emphasize findability. However, creating a great UX should be the main focus of your product. Without it, you could have an exciting product that might not reach the hands of potential customers. All of these steps can help you get on the UX bandwagon.

UX is vital to your product and company. Without a great UX, you will be sending potential users to rival companies. By focusing on UX, your customers will flock to your product or service.
